All off topic discussions go here. Everything from the funny thing your cat did to your favorite tv shows. Non-programming computer questions are ok too.

Fun times

Post by BigBuda »

First of all, I bear no responsibility on this site and I don't know if it's legal or not, but I'm assuming it's not that much frowned upon because I found it through links on MS's own website.

Instructions (READ CAREFULLY FIRST, FOR DRAMATIC EFFECT):
Without going immediately to Windows ME, take a look at a few of the OSs and the screenshots available.

Breathe deeply.

Take a look at the screenshots on the Windows ME page.

If you comment, no spoilers.

Er, I'm up for a laugh. Did you forget to post a link to the page?

Close. Right before publishing I edited the text because I had a few typos and was too eager on the Control+Backspace. It's fixed now.

This is funny. I was lucky enough to avoid Windows ME entirely. I was unhappy with 98 and went to 2000 and then XP.

I know people who lost HDDs because of WinME. Not just the contents due to corruption. The hard drive was physically killed my WinME.

ROFL

That said, I see no reason to pick on Windows ME *in particular*. Sure, maybe it was more crashy than previous DOS-kernel Windows versions (though I don't recall it being significantly more so), but the entire DOS-kernel Windows lineup (from 1.0 to ME) was a trainwreck of shoddy engineering, more of a toy than a real OS. If ME was the worst of the lot, most of its problems were still inherited, and in particular the fundamental architectural blunders at the root of it all were inherited. The same jokes work for the entire lineup without being any less hilarious.
