if typing http: then you get a this isn't a valid url box. If typing just http it first queries google and then jumps to www.microsoft.com. that's really weird.

suppose that's some bug? (or a feature?)

It's not a bug. Do a google search for "http" recognize the first site in the list it shows? ;)

When you type stuff in the url bar it automatically searches google and sends you to whatever the first result is.

If you go to about:config, you can even change the keyword target address. My personal Firefox does a "regular" google search instead of the "I'm feeling lucky" that is the default.

The URL bar is used for "I'm Feeling Lucky" searches, the search bar for regular Google searches, but I don't even use it for that. I use the search bar for several dictionary searches, Acronym Finder, Wikipedia, IMDb and RottenTomatoes.
For Google searches, I use the Googlebar, which gives me all the functionality I need: Regular, I'm Feeling Lucky, Image, Country and Site searches, Cached Copy of a page, the "Up a directory" button, Google Result Navigation and the ability to search and even highlight terms on the current page.

That functionality is built into Firefox without extensions, Ctrl+F or Edit>Find on this Page displays the builtin search bar which includes a 'highlight results' button

I often use that Find bar by just typing in the word I'm looking for, however, if I've used Google to search for something, it's easier to just click on the words that are already in the Googlebar instead of having to type them again to find where they occur in the page. Or click the "Higlight search terms" button to easily spot all occurences of the word(s).
The highlighting feature of the built-in Find bar for some reason* doesn't work here (nor on any of the other two PCs I use), but even if it did, it would only highlight one search term. The Googlebar functionality will highlight all results on the page, for all search terms (each search term in a different colour). Kind of like the "Cached" version of a Google search result, but better.

*I hadn't really thought of this before, because I didn't really need it, but maybe an extension I use (most likely the Googlebar then) disables that function.

So can anyone explain then why I end up at demon.net, with both Mozilla and Mozilla Firefox?
