Finally got around to make a shield this afternoon and take some pics of it and my sword (which I made a couple of months ago) So, here they are: piccies ;D

lol, pat your such a geek! that is cool though. how did you make them? even though im 14, i still have my imagination i guess. and what do you plan on doing with those?

In the US (And I assume other sovreign nations) we have combat clubs, groups of people that get medieval with padded weapons and armor. It's a lot of fun, and nobody ever gets hurt. A lot of people are really serious about it, but I remember doing the exact same thing as a kid (with wooden weapons, ouch!).

at my last job, my workmate was into LRP stuff.
he bought a bag of rings and his wife sowed them onto a tshirt for him, so he had ringmail... quite cool.

his wife said it took a long time and in the end she made her husband do half of it. it was kinda funny, an old white tshirt with all these rings sown to it. it ended up being very heavy..

The sword is wood?

Sewed them on? That must be time consuming, yes. A friend of mine knows this person who's built chain mail with only the rings and some sort of welder. Apparently he's done it a couple of times but he hasn't made a business out of it.

Canadian Poplar to be precise. Dunno about the shield though. Have to ask my dad, but it seems to have three sorts of wood. (I'm not even sure the middle one is wood. Feels like wood, but looks like that spot of cement you can see on the first pic)

Kon-Tiki's right, if you go to Mount Royal in Montrel around the summer, every weekend you can see at least one group of LRPers. Except for manufacturing your equipment it's usually very inexpensive and groups organize all sorts of trips to various parks and places to play. I think it's even more popular than outdoor paintball and go-karting here.
