Well it depends on if he has software installed to track time usuage.

Also I know that xp professional has user management utilities for the admin to use... it might keep track of when and how long a user was using xp and stuff like that.

Just take admin rights from your father's account... And then, check at which programs are started up when you start your computer, and remove them, if they seem suspicious... ;)

Why is paranoia a recurring theme on this board?

That's odd, I have plenty things to hide and I don't feel paranoid...

Never assume anything when talking about computer thingses. there are facts.

check it for such programs, check for log files.win xp home edition just lacks some features of the professional edition, but else its the same. In Linux/unix it is normal to see how long a user has been logged in. You just say "last" in some console and you get a nice list.

as for hiding thingses: the best is to hide them obviously, so nobody assumes that it's something interresting. *sssfffgg*

Hmm, and the first program I made for Windows was a program that logged all startups and shutdowns into a file (dates and times that is)...

Hmm, I think there is a possibility to find out. I just downloaded this small file, openend it, and it showed me accurate to the second how long I've been on the computer... :-\ . I started the program just now, so it didn't have to run in the background or anything... maybe it only works on XP though.

Actually, the nature of his inquiry was technical so it does have right to stay. "paranoidal" is not a word btw.
