Surface mount soldering

Hi,
This is for a stupid personal project of mine. I watched you plenty of youtube videos on how to surface mount solder properly. have anyone here done smd soldering ? If you guys have any suggestions or pointers on how to do surface mount soldering at home properly, it would be helpful.

Did you try a reflow oven? Possibly one of the sandwich variety.

Oh man, I did something like this to fix an old GPU; it just melted the heatsink and cooler.

Hi Combuster,
A reflow station is way too expensive( ~ 200) and I do not plan to use it so often. From youtube videos and website searching, I found out following techniques.
- Using a normal solder and soldering wick - This requires much skill and steady hands !
- Using a solder paste - then later shaping it out using a hot air gun { It looks like this is by far the easiest }
- Some youtube videos demonstrating how convert a normal oven into a re flow station.
I was wondering if any of you folks had any practical experience.
