I studied accounting as my major field in university which is completely irrelevant to OS development. But I put a huge amount of time in learning stuff about it.
Is anyone else in the same situation?

I wouldn't worry too much about CS/IT qualifications. Tommy Flowers only had a certificate for an introductory course in Information Processing comprising DBase3+, Excel, Wordperfect 5.1, Paintbrush and Pagemaker. See
