I was looking through the member list and found that 53.5% (4304/8044) of the accounts on this site have never been used. Why do people do this?
PS, on websites that give video game credit, etc for signing up, this makes sense. But why do they do it here, where there is no incentive to make an account, and there a so few visitors that it can't even be used for spam?

Re: Odd accounts
If there are more than 45% subscribers are active, I would say it's a high utilization.
For many other platform the active members are likely less than 10%.

Re: Odd accounts
I wasn't including inactive people in that count, I was referring to people who created an account and did nothing with it.

Re: Odd accounts
How do you know they did nothing with the account? Perhaps they contributed to the Wiki or (more likely) subscribed to a forum.

Re: Odd accounts
Hi,
A spammer might get an account and post some spam. Then a moderator comes along and deletes the spam post and perma-bans the account; leaving an account with "zero posts" that can't be used to post again (moderators aren't able to delete the account itself).
Cheers,
Brendan

For all things; perfection is, and will always remain, impossible to achieve in practice. However; by striving for perfection we create things that are as perfect as practically possible. Let the pursuit of perfection be our guide.

Re: Odd accounts
I must say I see remarkably little Spam on these forums. Perhaps the moderators are very quick off the mark.
Re: Odd accounts
Hi,
I'm sure some people who just read the site also create an account so that they get their theme and "unread posts" remembered. There may also be some who do not post on the forums but just create an account so that they can edit the wiki.
Cheers,
Adam
