Changing hosting providers

I'm switching hosting providers.
I'm still in the getting stuff setup phase. Once I'm ready to make the DNS changes I'll post the new ip here and put the old server in read-only.

Is there any particular reason for the switch? Curious.

As the domain renewals come up I'll be switching away from GoDaddy because of their SOPA support.

I'm about to lock the forums. The new ip will be: 173.255.206.39
I'll update DNS once I have the current databases transferred over. I'll have to update/configure software on the new machine. Hopefully everything will be up and running in a little while.
If your DNS servers are caching the old ip, add the following to your hosts file:
173.255.206.39
www.osdev.org f.osdev.org w.osdev.org forum.wiki.org wiki.osdev.org files.osdev.org smtp.osdev.org osdev.org

Several reasons...
I wanted to switch to CentOS 6
CentoOS 6 in-part because I needed newer PHP to support updating some of the apps and it is a pain to switch in CentOS 5.
The current hosting provider is switching out management software and I've lost the ability remote reboot and look at any stats.
I've trying out switch to a VPS, hardware has gotten fast enough that even a VPS should have enough power. I'm trying out Linode if you are curious.
Price. Colo cost $65 per month but the VPS costs $30 per month.
MediaWiki is now a much newer version. Latest version that supports the phpbb user integration.

It seems to have some small regressions (got the same result with both Chrome and Firefox):
- wik.jpg (24.43 KiB) Viewed 12238 times
and the fact that an empty category box is placed at the bottom of discussion pages (actually, I dunno whether this was true before but they're not there on Wikipedia).

Also, buttons that were there to help with editing pages are gone. I noticed because I always used the signature button on discussion pages and now I have to type everything myself.

The damage has been done besides if we get a better off for a host why not take it?

What damage? Also, Go Daddy doesn't provide hosting services, only domains.

GoDaddy does do web hosting, you only have to actually look at their website to see that. What is this place, Slashdot? Does nobody actually check facts or RTFM before posting anymore?

I only use GoDaddy for domain register and DNS servers (so DNS still works if server goes down and ya'll can email me). I'll probably switch to NameCheap for DNS and then domain registry once the renewals start coming up. Was using Eleven2/180servers for hosting.
I think GoDaddy only stopped supporting SOPA because of bad PR, but there are still other things I don't like about them. I stayed with them for so long because their prices (with coupons) were cheap and they gave you free DNS servers and forwarding when most places were still charging extra.
I'll have to mess with the media wiki some more. I've found some bug reports that indicate that switching to 1.18 would fix the formatting issue but no one has tested it with the phpBB authentication extension that we are using....
