Steve Jobs is dead

I just heard some sad news on talk radio - Steve Jobs was found dead in his Palo Alto home this morning. There weren't any more details. I'm sure everyone in the OSDev community will miss him - even if you didn't enjoy his work, there's no denying his contributions to computing and GUIs. Truly an American icon.

Just heard about it.. I actually cannot believe he really has passed on.. I guess the GUI library i was making for windows can be made in his remembrance.. as if it will be mac like, havent made a conclusion tho but every one else has done it so it would be too common.

Along with Bill Wozniak, he helped propel home computing into what it is today.

Died at 56 with 8.3 billion dollars. Could be worse.

Don't know whether to put him above or below Gates though. (Does trolling work on dead people?)

Well look at it this way, they both pale in comparison to Ted Turner who himself also pales in comparison to the good folks who used to make up the top tier of Enron. Micro$oft and Apple are fairly benign compared to many major corporations, we just hear more about them because their products are pretty much woven into the fabric of our lives in a very direct manner.

I'm not referring to size, I'm referring to overall "corporate evilness".

Well, in comparison, ja. I mean, buying a shitty product (which is really just a matter of opinion) at an inflated price isn't the worst thing I could think of. It's bad, but I mean it isn't evil.

I wasn't particularly conscious (alcohol related) when I wrote those posts :P. But ja, Steve Wozniak*.

Steve looks like Tom Cruise lol.

EDIT: I think Gates is wearing a toupee.

RIP Steve Jobs. I'm not an Apple user however many of their products did set the trends in modern computing.

Venn, this is OT but if you want to see evil corporate practice, then look what is happening to Nokia. I've never seen anything like that and it is also illegal.

Steve Jobs wrote:Being the richest man in the cemetery doesn’t matter to me … Going to bed at night saying we’ve done something wonderful… that’s what matters to me.
Even if I use no Apple products, and can see no reason I would want one, I recognise that you did 'something wonderful', Steve. You created something that people desperately wanted - once they found out it existed.

Sure, Steve Jobs was responsible for some pretty cool stuff. It's pretty hard to argue that he wasn't a great salesman, artist, and CEO, at least in the sense that he was effective. However, both Steve Jobs and Apple have done some not so nice things. Here's a partial list. If all Steve Jobs had wanted was to better the world, he could have; instead, when he took back control in 1997, he shut down all of Apple's philanthropic programs. I don't know what he meant by 'something wonderful'.
