I've always been a big fan of the rally kadett. Obviously there are also other cars, but they're usually too expensive or too computerized. Also I don't have a drivers license, but that's a story for another day

I don't care much for specific models as long as requirements are met and the numbers add up.

For a time, I was a very satisfied driver of a '99 Renault Espace, which was an excellent car to ferry kids and lots of gear around. We did medieval re-enactment at that time, and a long weekend with a small kid meant lots of gear. It also proved very useful during the renovating of our house, as we could easily haul lots of stuff ourselves. But it was a gas guzzler (8.5 litres / 100 km - 27.6 miles / gallon), and when it started to show its age we sold it last year.



Today (with much less gear to worry about), I focus on gas consumption and price. In 2008, when I needed a vehicle to commute to work after we relocated to my childhood's town, about 10k Euros (14k USD) got me a Citroen C1, which in turn gave me an average 5.2 litres / 100 km (that's 45 miles per gallon), which is not too shabby (and was about the best that much money could buy back then). It's a snug fit in there with the two kids, but the four doors are nice, and anyway >90% of our car miles are done on short (<30km) trips anyway, so for us driving a car is about getting somewhere, not feeling like in a saloon. For the summer holiday we've got a roof rack, which blows the miles / gallon statistic a bit.



When we sold the Espace, deciding the C1 would be enough for the family needs, well, the C1 had to stay with the family so I again needed a vehicle for commuting to work. True to the "downscale" of our motor park, a Benzhou scooter (which is going by the name "FlexTech" here in Germany) seemed like the perfect fit for the 13 km / 8 mile round trip: driven by a 2 kW electric motor, this babe doesn't have a transmission, and needs neither motor oil nor gas. I would have loved to buy a plug-in hybrid instead of the C1, but they still don't sell any in the sub-compact range.

That car has such a design which can last for years and the sound of that V6 is amazing.

But today I drive:


Which is much, much better car then C1
Great small engine (only 1.2L) and still delivers good performance and low consumption.
But my next car will probably be Skoda Yeti TDI or some BMW if I get lucky enough.

I agree with Solar, a car is a functional device for everybody except the small top percentage of society that can waste money on "art".

My favorite car to actually drive is a '89 Renault 19. It works but doesn't comfort too much to get sleepy during driving longer distances. Also, motorcycles > cars for kicks.

I drive a '92 Toyota Corolla Seca Liftback (a model variant only available in Australia, I think). It's very much like this, except in dark grey.

I don't use it very much (my commute is done by bus, and I walk to the shops). I'd love to get rid of the car altogether, but unfortunately public transport where I live leaves much to be desired, and riding a bicycle here is difficult, mostly because of the numerous large hills and a certain death-trap of a bridge.

My favourite car is my Firebird.



Mine is exactly like this, minus the plastic scoop at the front. The 6.6 litre engine gives about 15 mpg. I drive my Hyundai Accent to work.

No, I think it's about 18 to 20 litres/100km if I don't step on it too hard. And of course with 11:1 compression it won't run on regular pump gas. It needs 98 octane which fortunately is available most everywhere here in Aus.

My favorite car would have to be the 2006 Honda Civic with no contest. I don't own one but I have drove my parents when I was learning to drive, in fact I still do..

41mpg ftw (non-hybrid version) It handles pretty smooth, you can't see the hood but over time you get used to it and learn were you are at. Best thing in the world to scare your drivers ed teacher with when your parking ect. because they have no idea were the front of the car is at

@coty: When you go to highschool, you will find that many of your friends are driving those. Well almost all of mine drive those types of cars

As far as i know, there were only 300 of these made, it was fast, and it was american(Drinks gas)

Well, they sold it back then
It's been passed down a couple of times. My mum got it from her aunt as a first car, then it went with her parents into retirement, and then I learnt to drive in it
