And reddit: http://www.reddit.com/r/programming/com ... ld_kernel/

Did someone submit to all three sites in one day? my analytics has gone from 200 hits per day to 3000! :/

Lots of interest on reddit on the subject lately, I think it stemmed from a LoseThOS thread. I know someone linked a really barebones bootloader overview for MikeOS or something recently. JameM's tutorials are generally highly regarded and viewed as a more updated and thorough overview of writing a kernel, because they are. I'm sure the extra free time around the holidays has given some inquiring minds a chance to research the topic of OS development as well. At any rate kudos James on the well deserved recognition for your tutorials!

It seems to happen every few years, someone resubmits it... do you even maintain it anymore JamesM? a lot of sites claim it's a Unix clone, but it hardly seems to be.

I do not maintain it. I rewrote the code but not the overlying documentation and explanation, so although that's hosted on googlecode it never made it back to the main site.

Which is a pity, looking at the state of the tutorial. Ah well. I advertise(d) it as a UNIX-clone, because that's what it was intended to be when finished. Never got finished :)

The way you handle your VFS and mountpoints in it makes it pretty unixy IMO.

It might be a good idea to update the site and "clarify" the situation a bit more, so it may persuade people from getting prematurely excited.

Not that it isn't an interesting.. ;)

Are you going to update your site to inform them?

Probably. Sometime. When I'm not at work.
