OpenSolaris
OpenSolaris
I just switched to openSolaris, and I have to say that I'm liking it. Slightly slower than linux distros that I've used(at leat program startup is ) but very easy to configure.

Re: OpenSolaris
opensolaris is pretty neat. it's only problem is that ZFS is not close to mature enough to be practical right now. that causes a lot of slowdowns.

Um, according to who? If anything ZFS is *faster* than many traditional filesystems because of the way it handles disks.overburn wrote:opensolaris is pretty neat. it's only problem is that ZFS is not close to mature enough to be practical right now. that causes a lot of slowdowns.

Re: OpenSolaris
i think so too...ZFS is supposed to be a tad faster than ext3 or the other ones..
but that's by the by.

"Do you program in Assembly?" she asked. "NOP," he said.

Re: OpenSolaris
OpenSolaris is nice. I've used it a few times in hypervisors (as I am already dual-booting my dev machine and my other machine only has a USB slot [which OpenSolaris doesn't provide an iso for]). It seems to run well and detects all my hardware great.
I may be trying the USB bootable version of OpenSolaris (Belenix?) soon, hopefully that goes well.

Re: OpenSolaris
i see..sounds great!
i guess i'll give it a try as well...that is, if my box allows me!
it's already overstretched itself, running windows xp and fedora on a dual-boot, as well as running ReactOS on VMs in both the operating systems...
