Hello from LINKS!

I got extremely bored and decided to use my laptop (previous discussion) and SSH into my server to do a little shell refreshing. BTW, I generated new larger SSH (RSA) keys that are now 8k bits. I had never used LINKS before and decided to install it through apt-get and test it out. I actually like it! Although it did take a bit of getting used to, especially when I came here and with the abundance of text it was intimidating at first. The structure of OSDEV.org is very much in-tact, which is honestly the oposite of what I thought most pages would appear in a text-based browser.

I'd love to test it out as well (used it on an OpenBSD system before) but the Windoze "port" of the damn thing doesn't work on Vi$ta..

Don't swear on Windows, and try XP instead. Not all new means all good.

Troy Martin, You just need to set compatibility to Windows 2000. This was posted from vista. All in all not really a pleasant browser to use. Back to Chrome for me

Vista came with the laptop, and I don't feel like starting over with a fresh install and two days of downloading to do.

2k compatibility mode, eh? I'll try that!

I remember using Links on my old server machines, so I've installed it onto my router (not a typo: google OpenWrt) and I'm using it to post this message. It reminds you, of how simple the web is at it's core, without many graphics and animations to distract from the links and content.

I used it to test the server side of my TCP stack. It meant I could quickly test (because testing also involved removing ARP entries) via the command line as well.

I didn't enjoy using it for posting in forums but its lightweight nature makes it nice for basic browsing.

It's kind of amazing how fast it can be and how little memory is required when you cut out all the graphics.
