Possibility of down time this weekend
Chase and the osdev.org server are approx. where the red dot is. May turn out to be nothing and the server and myself are pretty far inland so we don't really have to worry about flooding but there is always the possibility of electrical and/or network problems.
Re: Possibility of down time this weekend
Good luck with that - hope you manage to avoid the worst of it

How did you do through Ike? I also live very close to Houston. Our power just came back on yesterday.

I assume you're still all OK there?
I did notice a 20 minute downtime a few nights ago or so. But I assume that's just my ISP or router.

I know that I'm OK. Alot of people aren't though, because they no longer have a home. Fortunately, many people decided to evacuate. That doesn't imply that nobody has a home. The storm did its worst along the costal area.

I'm smack in the middle of the US. The weather here is definitely odd, sometimes it seems like it changes every 15 minutes. But by far the most "exciting" thing that happens around here is all the tornadoes. And hey, chasing after them, or driving around to find them, as dangerous as that can be, is also pretty fun. That's the job of a storm spotter, to go out looking for storms and call them in so the public can be warned about them. I use to do that, but stopped after my son was born. Kind of miss doing it sometimes, but oh well.

Me too. Besides hurricane Ike, I used to live in Kansas City, Kansas. There was a gigantic tornado in 2003 (I think) that hit a mile or two away. In 2002 there was an ice storm that knocked power out for days.

Ah, living in Kansas City sure is interesting. I remember that tornado, I was chasing it then... It hit right next to a coworker's house. Houses on both sides of her's were completely destroyed, but she had just lost about half her roof. Most of us from work spent a weekend there helping her rebuild, which ended up being a lot of fun.Joshw wrote:Me too. Besides hurricane Ike, I used to live in Kansas City, Kansas. That ice storm was not so much fun. My apartment was without power for about a week, so I just stayed at a friend's house most of that time. Tried staying in my apartment the first couple of nights, sure it got cold but it was more the not being able to shower or cook food thing that convinced me to stay elsewhere.
Now that I own a house I don't look forward to the cleanup resulting from the wind storms and ice storms... A neighbor's tree fell last winter during a not-particularly-bad ice storm and totally destroyed my fence that I just put up the summer before. Then after I helped the guy cut up the tree and get it all removed, he didn't bother to help me rebuild my fence, sigh. Oh well, it's not like I had to pay for all the new material to fix it. Yay for other people's insurance!
