Site Updates (still in progress)

Post by chase »

Yes, I'll be adding themes. I've got more work to do in several areas but I want you guys to start testing it all out. Let me know what is broken and what needs to be changed. Both the forums and wiki software have been updated so check them both out.

Don't like it so far

Post by geppy »

1) avatars are on the right
2) no coloring for assembly code, [code ... /code]
3) light colors, some people have not very good LCDs (and even on good oce) - 2 light colors like very light blue & white will literally blend together in a single color
4) when using classic GUI interface in WinXP(2000) scrollbars do not fit at all in a news style(in

Code: Select all

 section for instance)
 5) there is no clear separation between posts (see #3)
 6) i will not log in only to enjoy some other color sheme
7) don't think that dark blue text on light blue background with slightly blue background everywhere else is a good idea

IMHO almost every single site that changed look- suffered

thanks

Nice work chase,

I'm with geppy on the default theme. I'm often too lazy to log in all the time, so if you would be so kind to save my eyes from the default 'fisher-price' theme that would be kind.

PS: The 'offline' button on the side seems to think that I'm offline, while, atm, I'm online writing this. Not really sure what that means...

wow, GIANT buttons and images... ick.

The post-login page should go straight to the index, not to a page telling you to go to the index. =)

The phpBB logo in the upperleft is annoying, hopefully that will change soon.

also, one thing that will just bug me forever is the fact that the 'last post' column does not say what the thread is, it only says by whom. I like seeing the most recent thread title.

I really am going to be adding themes(styles) guys, promise. This is the "just got the thing on" look. Once I've added some we will have a vote as to which should be the default theme(style) for the forum.

In overall I think that this looks now better but somehow it seems to be a bit more harder to read the topics of the posts because now there is a topic and then the originator immediately below the topic!

So currently:

Feedback wanted
by Combuster on Mon May 26, 2008 6:11 pm
Book Recommendations
by Schol-R-LEA on Sun Aug 25, 2002 5:59 pm
...

Maybe it would be better to move the originator of the topic to own column (or somewhere) so that only the topics are listed one after another i.e.:

Feedback wanted
Book Recommendations
...

I seem to be getting a different theme depending on whether I'm logged in or out.
I also agree with 01000101:

I get the same. When logged out I get the old subSilver2 style, when logged in I get proSilver.

Hi,

I am still undecided about what I think layout-wise at the moment. Any change will take some getting used to and I don't know if the new themes will also include different layouts. I also don't know what Chase has yet to configure.

One new feature which is very nice is the scrolling code windows - alright as long as people remember to use code tags!

Cheers,
Adam

I really like the new theme. I tried the old one... it's just missing too much information.

Kudos for getting such a big site ticked over onto a new server and upgraded software so quickly, especially on no notice. Well done. :)

I'd like to see the Thread name above the latest poster in the Board Index view, like it used to be. I found that very useful:)

Hear, hear!

I've only been playing around on the site for 20 mins, but have just noticed a couple of technical things which may just be a matter of fine tuning:
* Posts don't disappear from the "new posts" list even if I have read them (although they remain in the list, the icon next to the post does change from red to black, though, indicating that they have been read).
* A post which only I had added a reply to appeared as "unread", even though it was me who replied (no - I checked, noone else had replied at the same time)!

Cheers,
Adam

Everything done so far looks good from here, the rest has pretty much been mentioned already. Looking forward to see the MTdark and MTdark2 theme back. A shame that the only language that can be syntaxhighlighted is php (and only because php has a built-in function for highlighting itself)

Nice work, chase =D>

Just noticed some oddness! Either someone has joined with the username Google [Bot] or Google have created an account, becuase it is currently in the logged in user list :? Perhaps phpBB3 recognises when a bot is crawling :-s

phpBB3 does indeed recognise when bots are crawling.

It'll be interesting too see how long it takes Yahoo! or Microsoft to turn up.
