Script kiddies are the worse because they do it to annoy people and to cause trouble.
Most of the crackers do it for revenge and personal gain.
Hackers do it to help people find then fix these problems.

good to have a tight firewall. Script kiddies can't come throu', only damned good cracks who know their utilities and tricks. 've tried some at home. The most annoying one is when a cracker comes and sends dozens of tcp-syn packets with dest. ff.ff.ff.ff - that's crap: the machine craps out if it's not able to drop these requests off - because it's a legal request to init the three way handshake of tcp. in networking terms this is called a syn-flood, and you can set a value in linux f. ex. to determine, how many syn's the kernel accepts, before it drops ALL connections due to a possible syn-flood-attack. But that's what a firewall is for.
you can protect against script kiddies and medium cracks, because they seem to know only USUAL ways to intrude or destroy. The good ones, you don't even recognize, when they slip in and deliver their present, and when you recognize, its often too late.
To avoid that, some enterprises have so called honey pots installed in the DMZ of their networks: these honey pots are to attrackt cracks: they think they got a good crack (even honey pots are hard to crack).

My computer's firewall logs show that I get approximately 100 hacking attemps in a day... Oh boy, how I hate those script kiddies/lamers who can't even get thru firewalls...

Most of these contacts are port scans, dear Eero
.No need to stick the head in a pile of sand.

If I would include port-scans, then this number would be much bigger...

Well, any hacking is breaking through without permission whether for good reason or bad. Suppose you had a government agent break into your house because one of your family members stashed a giant pile of "nose powder". The agent then proceeds to find that particular member of the family without anyone even being aware of the agent's presence. Finally, you hear a big crash and the agent loudly announces that family member's arrest. Wouldn't you still be disturbed by that?

Sounds like my mom. She was once trying to punish me because I said something bad about her while she was reading my Msn-window. I told her it was none of her business a hundreds time before. Her side of the story is that she didn't read it, but I have to be punished for what I said. Such things just don't work. They're not reasonable, so I fully agree with hackers being bad unless they're employed by the people they break in at.

This was all a hoax, agigames.com was never hacked. Please read both of these things for the scoop.
