Who needs meta-data when you have long file names... Not me

All off topic discussions go here. Everything from the funny thing your cat did to your favorite tv shows. Non-programming computer questions are ok too.

Who in their right mind would LOVE short filenames?

Post by SpectateSwamp »

Who in their right mind would love 8 character names over LONG filenames?

Swampies say long You say short.
Do a google for "long filenames"
And you'll find at least 1/3 of the postings are about: can't this or won't that with the filenames.
They are a problem and it is due to the shallow thinking of the OS developers.

But then I can understand your shortcomings .. You seem to resist anything that might make your life easier..
OS resisters not developers..

Come on OSies make the fixes needed, so nobody has to struggle with long filenames.

Oh Wait.. what do you have when someone calls troll troll..
Not chicken little

I think you've misunderstood. We don't want short filenames, we want filenames that are only the name and nothing else. No parameters. No thumbnails. No GPS coordinates. Just the name.

Don't forget the video len=?????? the app can use that number when running random..

You wouldn't believe the time it takes to just find the length of a video.. when doing random..
The app needs that value..
The time is like 4 or more seconds to get the length on a small file... Now that is slow..
But not when it is in the filename..
That is why the video random is fast fast... not slow slow
Is there a place in the metadata for the Video Length .. If not.. Boo

Yes.
And when does that get loaded?

I notice that there is a lot of OS activity when I open a folder with freshly downloaded video.
The directory / file explorer does show the right length. But not to the 1000ths like mine.
