POSIX geeks, I need your help.
Well, its like this: I enabled the 3D acceleration driver in ubuntu and worked fine, but I visited AMD's site and downloaded the newest catalyst for Linux, so I ran it and it installed, but after reboot everything screwed up - before starting GNOME, a text screen blinked three times with "running local boot scripts" and then GNOME started in 800x600, saying that it couldnt detect my video card or graphics driver, so then I disabled the 3D acceleration driver in system settings and removed the xorg-driver-fglrx package completely (autoremove, autoclean, to remove the cached files). So I tried to reboot and ubuntu was back working, but without the accel driver (its a good thing to have compiz in it... ) so I decided to turn the driver on using system settings. It downloaded the package xorg-driver-fglrx, rebooted, and the same. Crap.
So I tried to disable it again, remove the packages and run the AMD's instaler again, this time it said to me that "vcdk is missing, installation aborted". What the?...
I've also tried EnvyNG, the same result, or, it managed to boot the login screen but after that, instead of loading the desktop the screen went black (with normal mouse cursor), after X seconds then all white, and then it just dropped to completely black screen and numlock didnt worked so I rebooted and disabled the 3D accelerator.
What kind of stability is that? Even Windows could let me boot into safe mode and remove the faulting driver completely, not just some of it's parts like ubuntu seems to do (packages maybe)...
I'm seeing a reinstall in the future. Any advice?
