Setting up YABB
Howdy, this is an open thing-y about some helpful tips when setting up a YABB board. See, I have to put one up on my company's website pretty damn soon. Assume that I have already gone over the documentation... sure I have... as well as the FAQs. So... any helpful advice?

whats the company running server wise? latest php + mysql is good for yabbse. if your on a windows box, ive found php works quite well now, so too mysql.
(remember, mysql requires licensing in corporate environments, iirc....)
yabbse is easy to setup out of the box but there is a lot of legacy crufy from its perl heratiage. ie: config options in various places defining html colours and stuff...

What it looks like is a basic Linux server. I don't know if this is necessarily true or that I'm too drunk to imagine someone running a Windows Server. I can barely even grasp the concept of someone using an MS product as a server. I didn't know about MySQL needing corporate licensing, but seeing as we're leasing server space from a company that's already PHP+MySQL enabled, I'll just go ahead and assume that's their responsibility. I don't mind cruft, as you remember, I took a year off to program in AGI, for chrissakes! Thank you for your advice and suggestions, Stuart.

Actually YaBBSE has now been rewritten. They will be releasing it under a new name(SMF Forums) which is to get rid of the bad rep from YaBB(resouce hog/flat file) and to show that it is a completely different product under the hood.yabbse is easy to setup out of the box but there is a lot of legacy crufy from its perl heratiage. ie: config options in various places defining html colours and stuff...
Anyway, the new site is http://www.simplemachines.org it might look the same as YSE, but it's 30% faster, has user selectable themes, completely rewritten source, and various other new features.

i didnt see anything about requirements 
lemme guess, mysql 4 and php5? 
i'm thinking bout upgrading my host. dunno. cant find a good hosting site I like or seem impressed with. might just stick to cihost. I know what their network capability is, what the support is like and that.. which would mean, I _might_ get a php4 newer than 4.0.6 hahah..
i have been looking into some uml hosted places. but their base fee is only 64mb memory.. but you get a complete 'box' to load whatever on you need... (its linux, id rather freebsd but....), i could load any version of anything onboard... mmm tempting.. but 64mb memory isnt much for a server! (good diskspace tho....)
