Hi,
I recently upraded my office's PC from Windows 2000 server to Windows XP. Though i expected to see the neat blue theme that XP has, on upgrading it showed the traditional Grey theme of the old Win 9x series.
Tweaking the display settings were no use cos, though in the display shows that new theme is on, it keeps reataining the older grey theme.... ???
I had seen that problem at my friends place earlier, but he had to rectify it by reinstalling the whole OS.
I suppose its not that much big problem that it needs reinstalling!!! Does it due to a configuration file error or something else? ??? Does anybody know how to bring back the blue theme?
Help needed, cos without it my desktop looks drab too bad.
Restoring Windows XP's default theme?
Re:Restoring Windows XP's default theme?
Hmm, I have XP. But let me ask you. Do you have a dll called uxtheme.dll (Or was it uxthemes.dll)?
It is in /%Windows%/system32/ (Might be somewhere else or it migh be the first time I remember :/ )

Re:Restoring Windows XP's default theme?
I searched and found the uxtheme.dll file. Wish that it was not there and i could have rectified the problem just by getting that file.
Re:Restoring Windows XP's default theme?
K, I did this. I hex edited some values which let me run un certified themes. (Windows has some theme protection stuff) I am thinking that the blue theme ain't regged/certified so it ain't accepting it.
Re:Restoring Windows XP's default theme?
will do reg hacking after taking a backup of the Registry.
Re:Restoring Windows XP's default theme?
Ah, now i got at last that beautiful blue theme....
The problem was the "Theme" service was inactive. Enabled that service to automatic and then i could have that blue theme.
actually the blue theme is known as Luna.theme. What a strange name, seems that its named by some Lunatic. ;D
sadly i get the theme only after i log on some username. The default logon screen is still but the Old classic style though. Any suggestions?

You should be able to change it under Control Panel -> User Accounts -> Change the way users log on and off...
