Martial Arts
Martial Arts
I'm looking for some easy-to-train attacks, locks, throws and defences from various Martial Arts, but have a hard time finding them. Can't train with a bag (except for my little brother, but my parents won't appreciate that), nor do I have a good spar, so the techniques should be trainable on your own.
Anyone here who does/knows something about Martial Arts that can teach some techniques?
Thanks.

Re:Martial Arts
Ta'i Chi is based on simple forms, and you can practice these forms on your own without a partner. Also, instead of a punching back, you use (I kid you not!) a piece of cloth draped over a stick. I practice a little T'ai Chi now and then, and while I haven't had to apply it to any combat situations, I can say that I have improved with practice and that doing my forms very slowly a few times a day does make me feel much better. It opens up your bloodflow like you wouldn't believe.
Of course, while it's always best to have instructors with any martial art form, I'd say that this is the easiest to do correctly without a teacher.
Of course, if you want to practice real samurai kenjutsu, just get a well balanced sword and swing it right to left and up to down (and left to right and down to up) from various comfortable start\ing positions. That's it! As far as I can tell, the main key to successful sword fighting is not flinching and closing your eyes when going in for a strike. Any wispy, twriling action is basically for show. That sword of thing is great for movies, but in real life, all you want is practiced control of your swinging of your sword or stick or whatever.

Re:Martial Arts
without a partner you wont be able to do locks/throws and guage any technique. you also need a bag so you know the feel of correct impact to get proper limb alignment, eg, wrists.
i know wing chun and a few weapons forms.

Re:Martial Arts
How abt learning from some of the action Movies featuring some Chinese/Hong Kong stars like Jet Li or Bruce Lee? ;D
Re:Martial Arts
I'm learning from a 12-year old ::) from Enter the Ninja, a guy on the internet named Merc (haven't talked to him in ages though) and by reading topics in [url=http://pub13.ezboard.com/fsfuksubmissionfightingukfrm3]the Technique Archive[url].
Watching movies by Jacky Chan or the likes doesn't wield anything, because they're far too fast.

Re:Martial Arts
Just go around trying to do the Dim'Mak death touch on everyone. If they ask you what you're doing, just tell them, and they probably won't believe you, anyway. Then, try on the next person.
I know a massage therapist that claims to know a form of Vibrating Palm, which is a ninjutsu "Death Touch". Study Medicine and Learn to Kill!

Re:Martial Arts
wait do raf, you dont want to just learn martial arts, you want to be a ninja?
Re:Martial Arts
I can't be a ninja, partially because of my background, partially because I'm too old for it. I just want to be able to defend myself and others when it's needed. Could try to become a neo-ninja, but that's not the reason for wanting to learn some martial arts techniques.
Andrew, study of the human body does reveal quite some information on how to damage it. You'll learn the weak and the strong points, so you know where to hit with what. If you're really good, you can break a guy's arm by blocking his attack
Anyway, is there an online tute on this Tai' Chi-thing? Sounds pretty useful, since half of a fight's psychological (keeping your cool, impressing the opponent by not showing signs of pain or tiredness, toying with the opponent's mind to lower his defence and attack, etc) That Thai' Chi seems to help keeping your cool and wits during a fight.

Re:Martial Arts
I think it's best to develop your own attacks and defenses. I tried to go with various forms of Martial Arts, but basically I can't throw any object, that weighs as much as I do or more, over my head, and many tricks like this.
My tactics is to just show that you have no fear and you will not get hurt (I actually do not feel the pain, until someone cracks my bones, this however doesn't apply when I am not prepared for fight). If I have a possibility, then I just grab my opponents arm, and throw him around me, or cross two arms and hit him to between ribs or somewhere else, where I can make him breathless for some time... These are the most easiest things to do.
Our school has just too much violence, so you need to have some skills in defence...

Re:Martial Arts
yeah right....and my name is George Bush.
Anyway when I fight in school I just kick my opponent as hard as I can (in the face). Usually that helps ;D

Re:Martial Arts
oi, you are too dangerous... I wouldna consider crossing yer paths in dark streets even in my wildest dreams.
ha, violence in school ... when they wanted to gather for chasing me they had to run hard and seldom they caught me. I have never been interested in fighting.

Re:Martial Arts
I've had to fight once in school, back in 1998. Class was over and we went to the playground for a break. When I came there, a guy from my class walked to me and started attacking me. Still haven't figured the reason for that out, but if you don't do something before you know that, you're pulp (the guy did one or another martial art, forgot which one)
I blocked his attacks and kept on blocking them. One time, he managed to get through my defence and slightly hit my side. That's when I got angry and hit his nose full-fisted. It turned red and the guy never tried to attack me again (only use me for practice, with my approval -> Good blocking-training)
Noone has really tried it afterwards either. Some people with just pushing a bit, and the last years I was there some guys who're 4 years younger did a hesitant attack, but they just don't dare (They say I'm too broad for them, along with when they get so annoying that I can't stand and have a decent talk with my friends, that I swipe the away and continue with what I'm doing. Lightweighted guys )
I think that, when people're so stupid to pick fights at a school where people're so frustrated like in ours (school policies make them that), they just have such things coming to them. I'm not for fighting myself, but it's just the best way in some cases.
Anyway, Beyond Infinity, no need to be scared of me. I'm not really imposing, nor am I dangerous when you haven't done anything seriously wrong to me. If I don't know you, you'ld get a nod, that's all
