Making a MegaMan game. Any MegaMan fans wanna help?

Post by Joey »

I am going to make my own megaman game with the program Game Maker. http://www.cs.uu.nl/people/markov/gmaker/index.html

I am not sure if it will be from the X series or before. I either want it to be X series, or like 1-6. Depends what sprites I can find easier. If anyone would like to help, they could help me find sprites. Just private message me or post here if you would like to help. I will do all the other work. All you will need to do is help me find sprites, and maybe music and sound effects. Let me know if you wanna help.

Stealing sprites is Intellectual Property theft. Please either heavily modify the graphic files you get, or recruit some talented artists to create new ones for you.

im not going to sell the game or anything. i am making it for fun and because i really like the megaman games. if they didnt want us using the sprites, they would block you from saving them or something.

http://dynamic4.gamespy.com/~mmm/spritesinc/, my personal favorite. If TPS don't have it, these guys have it.

added: ok, in case of panelmonkey.org the page pdsprites.html clearly states that the sprites are public domain, so this doesn't apply. For the rest of the sprites on the same site, it does.

No. This is NOT how it works. Unless the permission to copy is explicitly granted, or the work declared public domain, you have no right to use them.

Btw, you can't block anyone from saving a picture from a website. It's just impossible. To show the picture, the browser has to download the picture, which means any other software (or even person using telnet) can download it. Same for everything else on the web.

Just because you are able to doesn't mean that you are allowed to. Just because you are not going to sell it doesn't grant any additional rights. Now, if you are only going to do it for yourself, and possibly some close friends, then it probably doesn't matter... but that's about it, and you are still in violation of the copyright, unless your local laws grant such special case.

PS. IANAL, so those that are, please correct me.

oh geez, this copyright crap is not amusing ...

there are free useable sprites and there are ones not to be used.hm, i'd rather go for the free sprites where the conditions are clearly expressed. the others: it is as with software - just be careful what to do with them. Better not to burn fingers with stuff not explicitly declared as free useable.

@mystran: hehe, you sound like sorta teacher*gg*

I'm not obsessed with copyright laws. I just think it's better to come up with your own original work than to make something derivative, especially considering the glut of nearly identical Mega Man games created by the company that DOES own the copyright.
