Sound is gone PLEASE HELP!!!

i have a problem i just installed winxp and now my sound is gone besides my internal sound do you know what i should do?
when i go to volume controle it says

There are no active mixer devices

i also upgraded from win98.


I have no idea what to do please help!!!!

The problem lies in Windooze XP, Use a program called VDMSound to get it working.
Can't remember the exact link, but I'm sure one of the generous people here will give it to you.

Actually it won't help. This is made for getting old games' sound working under XP. I just added the address. ::)

1) Don't you mean EXTERNAL? ::)
2) Reinstall your sound drivers, that should help.

i dont know how to reinstall them
and i dont know nothing about sound devices shoudl i just take my sound card out then put it back in then the computer might reonise it?

Uh... no. Apparently, you have one of them internet connections, so I'd suggest going to the website of the card manufacturer. Download the latest driver and run its installation program. That should take care of your problem.

well i did not get any papers because i bot it from some guy i dont even know.

1) Turn off your pc.
2) Pull out all the cables.
3) Open your computer.
4) Look at the soundcard.
5) Find the manufacturer and the card's name/model.
6) Write it down.
7) Close your computer.
Put all the cables back in.
10) Turn on your pc.
11) Start internet.
12) Start Google.
13) Look for the card, the manufacturer and look for a download of their latest driver.
