All off topic discussions go here. Everything from the funny thing your cat did to your favorite tv shows. Non-programming computer questions are ok too.
Mr.T...even if I had a good computer, I wouldn't be interested in them...I've followed up on the more recent blizzard games, I'll admit, but that's because I'm a fan...
Well, quite frankly, I like some 3D games. I remember playing tons of DOOM (with White Zombie playing). The only problem is that modern commercial games are mostly just incremental improvements in quality with very few truly innovative titles being released.
I've been hanging out on GameHippo a lot lately, and playing a lot of really good games. Most of them only require a Pentium 200 mhz, and they all have adequate graphics, good sound, and the game play never gets sluggish.
I think that we can use the more powerful modern processors and RAM to create larger worlds, more complex storylines, and more numerous or more complex game objects. Of course the game can be in 3D and still be a good game if 3D is the appropriate medium for the game concept. 3D can mean many different things... first person, isometric, or... AGI. Bwahahahahahaaaa!
<Ultimately, though, anything you see on a current screen IS 2D. Until we get holography rigs, all games, except for games played with actual other people will be 2D. Gameboy Advance doesn't count, though, because it is just layers, not true 3D... besides it makes people want to puke.>

Couldn't have said it better myself. That's the reason I don't buy them, Mr. T. These days you have to look for a needle in a haystack to look for a truly innovative game, while back in the SVGA era, as I like to call it, you couldn't swing a dead cat without hitting a classic. In fact some of these classics that I own and look for don't work properly or simply don't work at all because of my sucky(as you say it) computer. Meanwhile, emulation is a relatively new gaming fad and it still works on my sucky computer.
