This's a tough one... prolly one of the Discworld series... or the 7th Guest.

Grim Fandango! While the puzzles are a bit iffy in some places (I accidentally beat some, and others, I successfully solved only by trying the same solution repeatedly.). However, it had a great cinematic graphical style (3D like in Resident Evil), full voice acting, and one of the best original soundtracks. As I said once before, it was more like playing a movie. I laughed out loud and I cried out loud.

no, not really kill him :-)

on c64 my favourite adventures were:

bards tale 1 - 3, maniac mansion 1, pirates and co.

other games, I 've played often: clystron (watch out for thomas deterts sound track, this one is d(a)mn cool - and no, i won't hand out this A to get back a * :p), turrican I,II (there must be a third one but i never got it), giana sisters (chris h?lsbeck's sound is cooooool)

on ix86 I currently stick with final fantasy VIII when I am not lurking in the deep secrets of process management.
