UnrealEd 2.0 help please

Post by Joey »

hello everyone. i havent been here in a while. so anyway.

im working on making maps for unreal tournament and unreal gold, as well as learning c++. so i made a room for unreal tournament with textures, 2 guns, and lights. i added a player start navigation point, then went to test out my level. i kept on dying immediately, as well as every other bot. we kept respawing in the same place and kept dying. so then i added in more player start points and the same thing happened, only we started in a different spot. how can i fix this problem?

also, i dont know how to make a hole in a wall.

if someone knows how to use Unreal Ed 2.0, please help me out with these problems.

Hey Joey, haven't seen you for a while. :)

But to business. With creating the spawn place, I had the same problem. To fix this, I went into Unreal Tournament separate from the editor and made it so no Bots were in it. I then played a level, exited and opened up the editor again. Then, run the level from the editor and it should work. If you still die, I found it's because the spawn is too close to either the ground or a wall, therefore causing part of the player to spawn in the wall etc...

To fix this, just go to one of the 2D screens, preferably on of the ones from the side and then raise it slightly, it should now work.

To make holes in the wall, you must have either two things. Have two rooms next to each other with a with of 16 or 32 between them so that they are not touching. Then change the brush to fit the gap, between the rooms, so it will be 32 or whatever. Have it so that the width of the hole is big enough to move through, so have it about 200 and then the height about 200 as well. This will give you a nice square door or hole.

Subtract the hole through the wall and it should be fine. Test it and walk through.

I hope that helped you. But also, do you have problems selecting Surface Properties, because thats the only thing stopping me from creating them as I can't make my skybox without it. It doesn't work, no matter what I do...

Anyway, see ya around.

You still die... :-\

Okay, heres something. Take a screen shot of the 3D view from both above and from the side showing the position of the playerspawn. Send them to my e-mail at [email protected] and i'll make a room that is similar and test it out, if it happens i'll mess around with it until it's fixed.

Also, what is the height, width and length of the room so I can get better accuracy.

No, it's PlayerStart. I always just say Spawn because thats what it was in Quake and most other games.

And also, I don't think I will be able to try it out in UnrealEd, as I just went to start a new level in it and it has somehow been deleted. I must have got rid of it last night as I was getting rid of stuff that took up space. :-[

Anyway, still. Send the pics, the size of the room and also any other things you think might be wrong and i'll go over them looking for something. I'll also try to find my Unreal Tournament CD to reinstall as I can't find it on the net.

Sorry about this man. :(
