Recorder from the Win 3.11 days did an excellent job, but it was lost (like so many other things) in the conversion to Win32.
Re:anyone know of a free recorder for the pc?
Hey we had that...that was great...we had to delete it due to lack of free HD space... ::)

Re:anyone know of a free recorder for the pc?
That's because the files are in a special compressed format in which the files are renamed to *.ex_ not *.exe
Anyway...a 486 is a processor that came before the pentium and after the 386 and the 286 was after the '186 and the 8086 was the first processor for the IBM PC ( we all use IBM PC's now, but rather the arcitecture )
The 386 added 32-Bit registers and a more protected protected mode than the 286 did. The 486 and higher added more functions to protect the OS from apps or other things messing it up.
the 286 had what is called "16-Bit protected mode"....and still can be acsessed with 32-Bit processors by a special trick. ( use full in switching back to real mode...the '186 and lower only had real mode ).
You can reply to this message if you would like more information.

Re:anyone know of a free recorder for the pc?
I'm not sure if programs written for Win 3.? would work on Win32, but like I said, I'm not sure.
