Bothered?
Bothered?
I've been thinking about it and... is anyone bothered that of all the AGI games, FQ is the only to have really reached a mass audience? I mean, it's been downloaded hundreds of thousands of times from various sites. It's on Kazaa... etc. And really, it is actually a really crappy game. I made it to be crappy on purpose, or at least I tried. But, instead, it has reached out to probably millions. When there are tons of games with lots of quality that no one even cares about. Games that are much better than FQ in every possible way! I'm glad the world knows who am, but, it's not real fame... it's not real art... they don't know who I really am, or the kind of good stuff I'm actually capable of. I dunno... just thought I'd vent for awhile. Today hasn't been a good day.
Re:Bothered?
When I was a wee lad I had an Atari ST and this program called Art and Film Director by Epyx. I REALLY wanted to make Sierra games. So, one by one, I took screen shots of Space Quest 1, one frame of Roger's movement at a time. Then repeated this for several other Sierra characters, redrew the ones I couldn't just grab, and put together this little movie with all of these random characters interacting and this corvette from Police Quest and it was great and pointless. I mailed it to Sierra.....................
........and of course got this formal letter that said, in a very formal way, "no." I asked if they would ever release the game engine to the public, to sell it, sell it to me.
That was about 12 years ago.
One day while bobbling about the internet I stumbled across this stupid game called **** Quest.....
I am currently developing a game which I hope to release in AGS and later with AGI and SCI. The soundtrack for the game will be my next album (which will have copies of the game on it). I am thinking about writing a screenplay and maybe even a novel in relation to the characters and story that will be in my game. I wouldn't be doing any of this if it weren't for the discovery of AGI and SCI Studio.
In other words Rich, it's not the content of the game that matters. It's the fact that it is out there and it has made people aware AGI Studio.
Besides, it's about sex and it's free. The planet is full of cheap and horny bastards. Of course the game is popular.

Re:Bothered?
Well, Junc, we share a similar past then. I also had an Atari ST with all the games. I too tried to copy their style making my own games. Ah, I drew so many pictures with NeoChrome. It wasn't porno games back then. Just normal cool adventures. I never wrote Sierra, except to complain about their stupid point and click interface. Icabod wrote them though. He asked the same things you did, to have the interpreter, but no luck...
Then, we stumbled on the AGI community. Actually, Icabod found it first and told me. I guess he was good for something... arghh.
Anyhow, I'm glad that at least FQ will show people out there, like you and me, that the AGI community is here. Maybe in FQ2, I will put in an ad alerting people of the AGI community and where to go. Dunno. But that means you were looking up porn, junc! LOL. It's all good. We all do it. That's why FQ is so popular. I just wish I had the skills to entertain people without resorting to such cheap tricks as using porn. Oh well. To each of us, what we're good at.

Re:Bothered?
Making good entertainment without falling into cheap tricks's easy. Look for what you like in an adventure game, write a story about it, setting it in an enviroment you like and TADAAAA! A good game to be made ;D
It's easy as scratching your left ear with your right thumb.
(Now to hope Little Pirate becomes a good game too, otherwise you better not take that advice)

Re:Bothered?
While I won't deny or admit that I may or may not look at porn, I didn't find it there. I found it while looking at game development sites. After finding sites with your game it led me to Brian's Ultimate AGI & SCI site.
So, after you finish FQ2 why don't you make an epic AGI game. I've had a few ideas for AGI games that I wonder if I will ever get around to:
A real cowboy game (like goldrush but, more clint eastwood-ish)
a game set in Roman times (no gladiator crap, just a Roman, peasant who becomes a general, who becomes emperor, and how he gets there. Kind of like King's Quest, but in Ancient Rome)
A mobster game, 1930's mafia style.
I think all three of those genres provide a lot of room for a gripping moral tale. There was recently a post in the AGS forum about making more "important" games. "Important" meaning, games that have some kind of special message. Something epic. I like that idea.

Re:Bothered?
How about if we spammed Kazaa with the community's games ;D?
I guess FQ is also so popular on Kazaa because someone gave it quite good keywords that match up with many search terms... apart from all that porn stuff, it also has Space and Police Quest in it, and the file is sometimes called something with larry in it...
But still, it is quite amazing how a game can have so much popularity by using a popular theme and that so many sites offer it for download. I really hope that the game's popularity can also increase AGI's popularity.

Re:Bothered?
Actually, there's a lot more story in FQ2.
And believe me, I plan to make an Epic next. I call it FQ3!!! It will have lots of story elements. If FQ2 is four times as big as FQ1 then FQ3 will be four times as big as that! Well, maybe. Sorry, guys. I guess this is all I'm good. At least as Rich Eter.

Re:Bothered?
Yeah Rich.. but you know that your type of game is what most people on the net are looking for >:D
