Woah damn this board needs more posters, so I'm gonna add my '2 cents'. First off if you're gonna be playing guitar, you should listen to speed and thrash metal no matter how horrible the singer might be. I don't know if you've actually heard any songs by Slayer, but I can safely say that the songs "Blood Red" and "Hallowed Point" have some of the craziest guitar riffs of all time.

Believe me, just because most people say that the greatest guitarists are Jimmy Hendrix and Van Halen, it doesn't mean that the two guitarists from Slayer aren't the best even though most people have never heard of them.

Also, if you're still a beginner at the guitar, I really really really recommend downloading the songs "South of Heaven" and "Raining Blood". They both have really catchy riffs that sound really evil, and they're still pretty easy to play.

Hehehe. Hehehehehe. Hehehehe. Jimmy Hendrix and Van Halen the best guitarists ever. Hehehehe. I know some guitarists that can just play their accords (if that word exists) and they claim that those're the best players. My brother, who's been playing the guitar for more than 8 years, is aaaalmost at the level of Satriani, while he can play Jimmy Hendrix with his eyes closed with the guitar in the back of his neck for more than 4 years now.
Best guitarists ever are IMHO Steve Vai, Stevie Ray Vaughan and Joe Satriani. Purely on technique, Yngy Malmsteen'll be really good either (but on esthetic point of view, his songs're just spoo)

ill check those songs out after 06dude. i am interested in guitar. i dont know if you would call me a beginner though. im alright i guess. i havent even been playing for a year, and my parents say im good. IMHO and in my parents opinion and my guitar teachers, they all said that im picking up the guitar very quickly. my guitar teacher said im very musical. i think he said that if i remember correctly. i think im doing good. i can play a few songs and am good at power coords. i can play a lot of songs i hear. in a little ill know what power coords to play.

Also that Dimebag Darrell guy from Pantera is a great guitarist. He's like blues mixed with metal, and he plays ridiculously fast guitar solos.
