HATE MICROSOFT?

All off topic discussions go here. Everything from the funny thing your cat did to your favorite tv shows. Non-programming computer questions are ok too.

i hate microsoft!!!! their software sucks, and so does tehir OS. but i dont think we cna ever take them down.
IF we make a super OS, that can run all games(thats basically why most adolecents use it) and is as good in its internals as linux. bill will jsut pay is goons to come to our houses and smash our computers. linux is great, but it cant compete with windows. its all business and advertising, and corrupt deals too

Microsoft's operating systems are not as terrible as some people may portray them to be; however, they certainly could use some work in areas such as security and stability.
The reason why I denounce Microsoft is not so much its quality of software, but its business ethics. Basically, Microsoft broke the law with its monopoly + anti-competitive practices and got away with it (partially by offering a bribe to the would-have-appealed 9 states to silence them). The politics of using Windows is really depressing...

Go Linux! :-)

windows is designed for the home user, not us programming guru. Weather or not it works, depends on the user's use for it...... 90% of the users just use it to write word documents and check email...not use command line, not accually use it to the extent we do. I do feel they have violated anti-trust laws but unless we apear on the jurry, theres nothing you can do. (damn goverment! --- in a humorous maner)

Very, very long ago (10 years ago, when I was 5) I used a computer with dos. (the computer wasn't mine btw) It worked pretty well.... (I only played some games)

When I was older, I didn't have a computer...
(my parents sent me to school, and I played with lego and "war" games outside)

gladly, our family had one.
My brother had one.
when my brother showed me a computer game (command and conquer)
I got very interested in computers.

My brother and I always had foughts about who was going to use the computer. (my parents didn't like that very well)

I often complained that I wanted a computer myself.
My parents decided to buy me one. (a 386)
but it broke when they bought it, so I got a pentium 200.

by then I _only_ used it to play games (I think I was 9 by then)
a friend was suprised I was able to be at the comp for long times...

My brother was game programming that time.
He asked me if I'd like to help with a game. (I had to draw)
but 'cause I only drew animals with guns he decided to stop doing it :P
(I was very much in my childhood by then, I still am :) )

That's when I started programming myself. (I think I was 7/8/9 years old by then)

I quickly learned basic.
And learned pascal some time later...

But, somehow my windows box often crashed in games.
It did while I was coding too.

It was really pissing me off, so I asked my brother for something else than windows.
He has corel and suse linux...

I first tried to install suse linux, but it was to difficult by then.
So I asked him for corel linux.
When it was installed it had kde as desktop (with a windows layout) and I directly wanted to uninstall it.

So I installed suse linux again.
I did some experiences with it...
And made my first graphical programs (except for the some graphically assembly I had made).

I got contact with the dutch linux user group (nedlinux) and gametome.
I've posted on their forums for a long time, I learned many new things.
(such as c programming, partitions etc)
I've tried many linux distros. (and otherstuff, right now I'm in a debian woody box with blackbox)

I also got interested in os programming.
That's how I got here...

Best,
Frank

I think that the better you to show your opinion is to join community like the FSF ! With 20 million users, you clearly have more power ! 8)

I have been using windows 9x for abouts 3 yrs now and have found that at times it can crash as it is a bit unstable, but i think that is only due to the fact that i use it to its maximum extent, unlike most users who only use it to write documents or play games. however one thing i dont like about windows design is the fact that it will allow any software to access its windows directory and add dll's. this feature i think makes it prone to crashes as bad dll and usually when u uninstall some software they do not delte the dll they put in the diectory. this makes the os slow. i would suggest they have a separte directory where dll's are stored. this directory will be for the software dlls' and all the os dll's will be stored in the windows folder, but to access the folder the correct permission will be required.
does anybody thing that this is a good idea.?

Although this thread is quite old - my oppinion:
Windows is quite good, but still much too unstable and unflexible - Linux satisfies nearly all my wishes.
Needless to say, my Operating System is still the best ;)

Oh by the way...this is so off topic...

I think the moderators should lock this or delete it before people kill each other with hate.

I am kind of weird, I love windows, but I hate microsoft, is that being hypocritical or something? ::)

I would like to state, I have gone up the ladder, starting with dos, then win 3.1, win 95, win 98, and now I have windows XP. XP is probably one of the best windows I have tried, not only from it's graphics but the fact that I havn't had a crash yet since I got it. Of couse I still go back to my roots and use DOS on my old win98 pc.

Ok, so let's change the thread name to the STONGLY DISLIKE MICROSOFT thead. ;)

As I said I like some of their producs(IE, Windows, AOE) but I don't like the way they handle business or the fact that they want to be the only OS available.

All my DOS stuff works on XP...

But I don't think anyone cares if this thread causes hate other than me.

No no! I got it!!!!

Lets change the thread name to: "Let's Pick On MS" thread!

Instead of trying to help them be good, we can complain and say how evil and bad they are and be dissructive!

;)
