What is your hobbies apart from computers ?

All off topic discussions go here. Everything from the funny thing your cat did to your favorite tv shows. Non-programming computer questions are ok too.

I don't really have another hobby.. I spend my days home in boredom ever since I got a job programming lol..

well I kinda have other closely computer related hobbies. Such as electrical stuff, and my ever on going country-side wifi project planning(someday when I'm rich enough to implement the infrastructure. some day)... hanging out with friends and girlfiriend, though I don't think those are hobbies. I have an interest in drawing and such, but I suck at it, so I don't do it much... sometime I like to write poetry or short stories, though they usualyl get trashed about half way through because they are crap...

(Was going to post a new thread on this, instead found this thread in the search)

My hobby aside from Operating system development, or programming in general, is building with Lego Technic.

Childish you may think, but i have grown to be fond of designing more advanced creations such as small scale Lego vehicles (With suspension, transmission, and Lego engines powered Pneumatically) with Lego Technic

Like programming, it feeds my creativity as i feel i can build anything i can imagine with it. Within the amount of pieces i have though ;)

For me, outside of computing I play drums, Samba, alternative marching bands, I find music fun!

Hooray, archaeology! Let's see what I wrote a couple of years ago...

I can happily say that martial arts (judo) and pen&paper roleplaying have been revived. ;-)

That hasn't changed. This morning I tickled my 4.5-year-old under the chin and proudly said, "my Markus!". And he tickled back and said, in the same voice, "my dad!". There's nothing in the world that is equal to that.
Every good solution is obvious once you've found it.

Lets see, from four years ago...
Why don't you go down the memberlist and select "profile" - its all there
Computers, Music, Dance
My base values haven't changed that much, I spend some 8 hours a day on a computer, I'm still an average six hours a week near a ballroom, and I can't imagine a day without music.

What did change is that computers have become a paid job, I have since become part of a student choir, and we will be visiting the UK this summer on tour. I now own a piano of my own and since a week I have two harps to play on (got myself a small one for being able to bring it along somewhere) besides my old collection of a keyboard and the mandatory recorder and harmonica.

Some less prevalent hobbies include mechanical hacking (legoes, electronics) and tabletop games (of which werewolves, cardgames and roleplaying represent the largest fraction)

My main time-absorption activity has stayed roughly the same for the last 6 years... I row more often than is probably sane (see http://www.firstandthird.org/), and when I'm not rowing, I end up coaching.

That said, I still manage to find time to sing gregorian chant for a couple of hours a week, and play in a couple of orchestras.

I wish I had more time to devote to other bits and pieces (night-time photography, salsa dancing, cycling, badminton & squash, reading), but life seems to keep getting in the way.

This is so true, there is nothing equal to that :) Even when they're having tantrums or up to no good, you cant help but admire the ingenuity of a kids mind -- like watching them try to get hold of some chocolate on a table they shouldnt really be able to reach -- and it always puts a smile on my face, especially that look of achievement on their face afterwards, lol :)

Personally outside of computers (which these days ive had less time for!) i like to get out and do a bit of photography with my DSLR when i have time and the weather is good, i also enjoy motorcycling, again when i have the time :) Nothing like the wind rushing against your helmet and see the landscape fly by, the feeling of acceleration... mmm :) Of course i don't particularly own a fast or powerful bike, couldnt afford it, but what i have is fun enough for me...

Computers....anmaquinas...

Personally, my favourite hobby is playing the violin. Second favourite is sitting in the corner, being antisocial and doing semi-complex math problems in Digital Electronics class.   [-X :^o and smileys, obviously :3

I don't have many, I live in a pretty rural town in Ontario, Canada. So, I don't get out much. I watch a lot of TV, movies.

Just recently became an OpenBSD developer, but that isn't really a hobby apart from computers.

  • Killing stuff
As a shameless pug, I've recently rejoined the beautiful world of photography and made a new flikr account. My photos aren't that good, but I am improving. So, you can see my stuff at http://www.flickr.com/photos/draumr-er/

Two things that come to mind are realistic pencil portraits (I have my second sample, that I drew back in 2006, posted on another thread; I'm much better at it now but I haven't scanned anything recently) and jamming with friends (I play guitar; my style is a mix of classical, rock, blues, flamenco, and gypsy jazz). Here is a pretty cool 40-second demo I made (12 bar blues).

You wouldn't mind posting an update here would you? The other thread's image looks very nice, any improvement from that would be worth seeing for sure. Your 12 bar blues was very nice as well
