have you downloaded Windows 8? here's the link. (legal)

All off topic discussions go here. Everything from the funny thing your cat did to your favorite tv shows. Non-programming computer questions are ok too.

I've been the Windows user for several years now and I pay for the every product I use, even though the cracks are available around. I chose Windows because it suit my needs. I still find a reason for people to choose the OS of their interest. Now as a regular Windows user, if I don't like a new implementation, am I not allowed to acknowledge that? To be honest, the only way to find flaws in the product is to collect the opinions from the people who actually use it. That's how bugs are found and a better product is released. So I think this thread isn't actually a flame war but instead the source of opinions.

And at last, why do you think Microsoft releases beta versions of their products? To be able to collect views, ideas, complains so that they could bring out a better final product, right? Right.

Cheers!

But they aren't looking here for that input. 8)
Every good solution is obvious once you've found it.

Yeah, but by sharing views an individual gets to know he is not the only one liking/disliking the product.

Yes, they do make these releases somewhat for user input, but not completely. This release is aimed at developers, not users (so they can adapt to the new system and become familiar with it). Sure, they like getting feedback about it and they might even use some of that feedback, but that still doesn't explain why so many people are acting negatively towards the Metro interface. I mean, complain about it all you want, Microsoft isn't going to dump Metro entirely because the users don't like it. My point is just that some people make ridiculous statements like "everyone will stop using Windows" or "The new Windows sucks (solely because of the new interface)" which is just complete and utter bogus.

And as I said before, everyone is allowed to voice their opinions, but if that opinion turns out to be a ridiculous one, then you'd better keep it to yourself (I'm not implicating that yours or anyone here's is, but just in general).

I agree. That also explains why the traditional Windows Vs Linux flame war erupts frequently. So, I think we should continue this thread in another way, this time with positive aspects of Windows 8.

(But again, I really prefer Windows 7)

There's a difference between a valid complaint about the significant UI changes and someone simply yammering on that linux is better because it's open source or something. In a graphic OS the UI is a huge feature and directly impacts the accessibility of the OS and many of it's functions. Windows 8 could have tons of great changes and features under the hood, but no one is going to care if the whole thing is a pain in the @$$ to use.

Try here:

Top three reasons why my OS project died:
  1. Too much overtime at work
  2. Got married
  3. My brain got stuck in an infinite loop while trying to design the memory manager
Don't let this happen to you!

I actually think it looks good for a tablet. But I cannot understand why windows would propose this interface as a desktop OS? Tablets
and Desktop PC's are two very different creatures. This just seems like suicide to me.

Thats basically what is going on. They will realize it in their next windows 7 like hit. And then another vista, then a 7. Then the computer will make dinner, and then it will burn the house down.

Or strand you in space, kill your crew mates, sing you songs as you try to turn it off, speak with a silky-smooth yet still eerily mechanical voice.

Remember...he is watching you...
At Iðavoll met the mighty gods,
Shrines and temples they timbered high;
Forges they set, and they smithied ore,
Tongs they wrought, and tools they fashioned.

I am one of those, and I think the ribbon sucks. Not because it has flaws, but because I used to know where all Windows and Office commands could be found. Now I am looking for commands all the time. I would have appreciated a "keep the old interface" option.
If I hadn't installed something which gave me back the old style menus, I would have ditched Office 2010 and gone back to 2003 long before now.

As for Windows 8, from what little I have seen and heard, I will be keeping my money in my pocket.

I agree. Just look at the window. Bullshit(sorry!). I'm really hoping that they'll make changes when they make official release. God! that's so annoying.
I doubt if humble pie is Microsoft's favourite dish but, if it impacts their profits enough, they will have treated themselves to a good sized helping of it by the time Windows 9 comes out.
