Hi there!

All off topic discussions go here. Everything from the funny thing your cat did to your favorite tv shows. Non-programming computer questions are ok too.

Hi there!

Post by Kazinsal »

Hi folks!

Well, I'm Blacklight. I'm (obviously) new here. I've been a programmer for a good number of years, even though I'm only 16. I know C, C++, assembly, Java, and could probably pick up most other languages quite easily.

I've never attempted an OS before, but I think I'm ready for it (probably last words of many people who enter this place, I bet).

Enjoy your morning/afternoon/evening/night!

PS: I love this smiley set. Simple, yet stylish.

Hilarious.

Anyway, welcome to the forums. Need anything, feel free to ask.

I didn't mean anything simplistic. Should have been clearer. I meant if he or she needed something that the Wiki cannot provide.

The getting started page says "There is nothing like the feeling of accomplishment."

It's right.

There's also nothing like the feeling of figuring out that the reason nothing was happening in your kernel is because you accidentally used jmp instead of je.

Oops.

It has changed a bit over the course of years, accompaigning an ever-decreasing percentage of newcomers being able to do some research of their own before firing their question.

It happens. Compare Usenet, twenty years ago. You ask stupid, you get flamed. 8)

Anyway, welcome to the forum, Blacklight! Never mind the occassional grumpy reply, if you ask the right question and make the right comments you won't be the target, but the source of 'em very soon.
Every good solution is obvious once you've found it.

I think I'm going to like it here.

Well, I'm pretty sure I can do my own research on most things. I know how to use a wiki and it turns out my friend has a copy of the Indispensable PC Hardware Book (he's not a programmer; he bought it thinking it was about fixing things) I can liberate from his clutches.

Also, that first feeling of seeing something boot, load, and print to the screen? It may be a small achievement, but daaang it feels good.
