boot from usb

i know this is pretty dumb of me to ask. and i know its probably very easy to do but i have tried to put elive linux of a usb using unetbootin for elive. i have tried on my 4gb and 1gb jump drives fromatting them both to fat32 and fat. still not working. i set my bios before all of this to usb boot first priority. still hasnt worked. im doing this because well one i dont have cds and 2 it was recommended. can someone help?

I'm not sure how this "elive" thing works, but with most OSs all you have to do is run the install media and instead of installing it to a harddrive, use a flash drive.

the program i used installed the iso to the jump drive, which was sucsessful and installed everything, but it would not run at start up. am i missing something? should i just stick with cd?
