The conlanging bug...

All off topic discussions go here. Everything from the funny thing your cat did to your favorite tv shows. Non-programming computer questions are ok too.

Anybody done this? I love Japanese and Tolkien's elvish languages, I've decided to make a mix. Me and my darn obsessions...

I, as well as JAL, are self-confessed conlangers :P

You ever hear of the ZBB? I used to hang out there.

ugh.. that seems so tiresome and pointless lol... I can't believe you would create something so extremely complex that would never be used and never have any real support..... oh wait.. this is an OS deving forum lol

Nonetheless, there are quite a few people being able to read SGA for that matter...

Personally I'm interested in how different language structures affect the mind.

Maybe you would like to try the Language Construction Kit ( http://www.zompist.com/kit.html )

Also the Sapir-Whorf Hypothesis might be interesting when as good to effect on mind. This Thesis also lead to development of Lojban, a very interesting artifical Language. One of ith strength is the complete need of ambiougnes. So it could be parsed without problems and could be used also as programming. But today there where only attempts to archive that.

Combuster: VORTIVILLE

I'm a little interested in conlanging. I'm starting to put together a written syntax for an alien language in my sci-fi universe and I plan on doing up a verbal language.

I wish I could add more tex

Émesji ecjex! Yd cje te xyti kecxömea kunédjua...

Hello again! I think this thread requires an example...

:)

A proper translation challenge, if anyone dares it:
Journey to the Center of the Earth wrote:Looking back to all that has occurred to me since that eventful day,
I am scarcely able to believe in the reality of my adventures.
They were truly so wonderful that even now I am bewildered when I think of them.
In Makvilad:

Kov usbusirluomeig ömngeébluog ek lezuaaké okucy,
kov kaivénz cje ajékuo cjaa lycjboaa zasjya.
Pvéta zasjyaakéri zjyki dezi énjösiri cjydöb cja ju ydvé cja.

No, I'm not fluent at all. I rely on my own dictionary for phrases any less simple than "kai léjn reaaa!" (be quiet!)
