My dog almost never barks; the exception is when something is "wrong" (someone enters my apartment in the middle of the night while I'm asleep, for example), or when I'm trying to get him excited enough to bark.

Wasn't your point of view that we shouldn't base things on one thing? Many dogs are annoyingly loud...

Yes, I would concede that some dogs are loud. I was being a bit anecdotal.

Either way, I've always thought that cats were smarter, and now I believe it even more strongly. Animals that would rather do their own things then pull on a string certainly seem smarted than animals who pull on a string when ever they're told.
