So I downloaded the Windows 7 Beta ISO weighing in at 2.44 GB, and now I'm installing it in VirtualBox. I'll be adding screenies of the install and stuff I do to it as I get further through.

It's been sitting there doing disk access for a while, I'll update when I get into explorer.exe.

So after the second restart, it wanted my computer name, username and password, product key, etc. I gave it the crap it wanted and it said "Preparing your desktop", so I thought "What the hell, will go watch some TV." It was ready a few minutes later. Looks pretty good so far, I like it.

Bet I can keep it forever if I just save state and not shutdown and start up every day.

I've already successfully installed it on my main computer, and so far, it has been a lot better than vista (especially when in comes to speed).

I accidentally overwrote wrong partition, so I lost my Ubuntu installation and all of my work (luckily, it wasn't much)

It actually is a half-decent operating system but you should give it at least 1 GB of memory and a video card with at least 128MB. Or else there's enough lag to murder you.

Is it fairly stable? I would like to try it out, but I'm not going to go through the trouble if it crashes every half second.

I'm downloading the ISO now (but I've limited it to 2 KB/s because of our monthly download limit, which we're having trouble staying under :/).

It certainly looks like an improvement over Vista (which I use now ) and when it does come out I plan to upgrade in the least my Vista laptop to Windows 7.

I like to say:

Vista was ME with DX10
Windows 7 is XP with DX10

Technically incorrect, but you get the idea...

Well I just upgraded to Windows 7 64-bit and it seems to work well.

I upgraded from XP to 7 (64-bit) yesterday afternoon. I have my Windows installations on my second hard drive, and it decided it didn't want to install there. Had to unplug the first HD during the first part of the install. Reconnected it after the first reboot and it worked fine. I submitted some feedback using the Send Feedback link. Apart from that I haven't really had any issues with it (apart from a few minor glitches that I've reported), and it's MUCH better than Vista IMO.

I had the same issue. I just temporarily switched my windows HD to my boot disk in the BIOS, and it supprisingly didn't overwrite my grub MBR on the other drive.

Yea it installs the MBR to the first drive it finds. Searching Rules:

Rule 1) From IDE to Sata
Rule 2) From Primary Master to Secondary Slave or Sata 1 to Sata 4

Which is terrible IMO but thats how they have done it for years.

I'm a fan of Windows 7. I'm yet to have it majorly crash on me and its shinier than before. I'm using it as my main OS. I figured it would be stable enough since its basically the same OS as Vista with a couple features to get users off their back.

i have installed windows 7 32 bit ( and tryed 64, witch sucks, due to speed) on 2 computers, and it is not that bad like vista. It runs better, and ( i hope they fix the "unstable" parts) right now close to be as stable as vista. I like it very much, but of cause, XP is faster.
It uses a lot of ram, but not so notic as with vista.
