Nope. Bill gates is a bussines man that used a lot of people and family connexions he had inside IBM at the time in order to become rich. He also tricked Apple a lot. He did NOT write MS-DOS and he did not write Windows.

Nobody knows the name of the main MS-DOS developer and nobody knows the name of the main Windows developer(s). But everybody knows and dreams about Bill Gates.

You can do AI outside of the OS as a normal application and when it is advanced enough (if ever) then you can put it inside a chip. No OS is needed for this. If you are able to make a valid AI as an user application then many investors might help you with money.

Remember the human brain is a advanced OS and win/linux is not even as advanced as a worm .

Nope. Human brain is very different from an OS. Completely different architecture. No logical connection with an OS.

But to answer the topic, you have to set your self goals and go for them, if you give up before you get there, you have failed.
If thats not enough to keep you going, than nothing will.

If you extract joy from every moment when you do OS DEV then you have WON my friend even when you loose or if death gets to you before your "useless" goals are reached.

You only loose when you setup goals and forget the joy of the now.

And you might be surprised to observe that if you do not set goals and do not strife an only enjoy it as it is then success might come unexpectedly as a guest.

I did exactly the same for a C compiler for a Fujitsu custom CPU. I have found the bug in their compiler without the source in the binary ASM code and send them the explanation and they had to agree and fix the bug in the next release.

I did not need the source.

I was just saying that there are better ways to attract woman (if you ever want this) than sitting at the keyboard and writing code that brings no money (hobby OS) all day long and all weekends and every free time from work (work is also writing code all day long for money this time) and eventually ignoring children crying in the next room or your girlfriend asking for a mandatory shopping visit to the "new" Mall

That fact that I found and explained that bug in ASM is true (it was about the compiler doing a stack frame optimization in in IRQ handler routine) and can be witnessed by the CEO of that company in Germany.

I remember this because it was the only time I have used my ASM knowledge in that project. Everything else was written in ANSI C and custom OOP language.

The device was a settop box developed for a firm in Munchen using and Fujitsu Arctangent CPU and I was working there under contract and lived in Germany at that time. The OS was done by a company in Berlin. OOP language and components were provided by another company in Muchen. Ousourcing was done by a company In Brasov Romania. The product was released and sold on the market with success. I left them for another job before the final success but I have contribute a lot by their own statements.

I can give you exact names and peoples but then you already assume that I lie. It is my CV on the net anyway ... probably I have placed the info there a few years before just waiting for this argument

I do have strong opinions but they are based on real facts from my vast work experience.

It was the only option since they sold that compiler at a relatively high price and it was closed source. Besides it was the ASM generated by the compiler for our own C code. Hence it was not illegal to check our own code and the way the compiler converted it into ASM.

The ASM snippet was shown to me by my boss because I was "known" in the team to have a passion for ASM. They needed logical arguments to convince the compiler makers because the email was "hot" and a lot of money was at stake. All went well in the end and I think my contribution was minor.

Of course. I answered only to his idea about doing OS Dev for the purpose of being rich and famous. It is his right to do so and it is also my right to state my disagreement once.

However the ASM bug was my comment on another talk about the "source code" that gives you "power". This was not related to "E" but it was off-topic indeed.

The OP never asked for what you thought about my business plan... so what's with the branched discussion? Well, since it's already been branched...

Anyways, I'm well aware of the budget required to do such a task. Your numbers are a little off for me as my OS has already had a lot of work done to it before I entertained the business idea. Also, I'm not fabricating an embedded device for this, I'm using existing (server) computers for this as I need the raw power. Fabrication of embedded devices is where a lot of your estimated funds would be going to.

Mind you, I have both potential investors, and have had past investors to this project, so it's not like I'm just throwing out a pipe-dream. I have posted screen-shots in the past and made a choice not to keep posting regular updates as my project progressed. I even deleted quite a few of my past announcement posts a few months ago. I've heard the criticism before (more-so at the earlier stages where my concepts and goal were in question), but like this, I'm already set and have already accomplished a great deal to let this bother me.

If you have closed your eyes to the possibility of a hobby OS being a base for a successful business, then I feel sorry for you. There's nothing I'd like to see more here than for more people here to create something practical and take it to the next step (but I also know that 90% of the developers here doing it out of sheer enjoyment, so that's a different story).

The branch was made because some people choose to offer economical arguments. However this was not my intention and you can verify that my main counter arguments to your plan are not in here where they are off topic but into your own topic about DINS where they are on-topic.

Again I will state that it is your reasons that I do consider wrong. It is my understanding that people that are driven by ambition and desires to become rich and famous are the main reson for that bad state the world today and probably the reason for our species failure in the future.

Hence I give warnings to such people when I think that might help them understand this.

But then you live in US and this is the "American drearm" and you are educated into this kind of spirit and desires as a reason for going on.

Hence I will give you a quote from an American named George Carlin: "

That is why they name it the "American Dream": because you have to be sleeping (closed eyes) in order to believe it!

I will say that my eyes are open for all possibilities and not closed for an commercial hobby OS. I think the GUI approach is better for making money. In fact my OS (standard GUI style) will be commercial. That is one reason why I made it closed source and keep on developing it.

But the main reason that drives me is joy and creation and not making money. However I do not exclude making money out of my hard work esp. in this kind of world we live in.

I could spend hours sorting out this thread, but its too interleaved really with on-topic answers and off-topic trolling about making money that this thread is no longer workable. I think the consensus has proved itself already.

@bontanu: I mentioned that you seemed to be unaware of the exact parameters of DiNS, and your subsequent posting proved that it was indeed the case. The fact that you went more and more off topic, used unethical argumentations and started insulting forum members as well as real persons is going just a bit too far.
