save to disk partition

Post by i586coder »

HI,
This post for any one own laptops,maybe the old ones :!: ...

/* short overview */
save to disk partition ,Used primarily when running from a battery, Save to Disk allows the user to place the laptop in virtual suspended animation. When the user suspends the laptop, a snapshot is taken of everything happening on the computer, and this information is then saved on the hard drive in the Save to Disk partition. The laptop can then be powered off to save battery life. When the system is powered on again, the laptop will return to the state it was in before it was suspended. Depending on the particular system configuration, Save to Disk can be configured from within the BIOS and/or through Windows.

/* the probelm */
By accedent i erased this partition from my AMD-k6 laptop when i tried installing puppy linux,
i searched in google 3 weeks ago but no result,but i found some DOS programs to make that parttion e.g (phdisk.exe,hdprepez.exe)
but there is no links to download :cry:

/* abstract */
any one guys know where to get free copy of
(phdisk.exe,hdprepez.exe) #-o

/* last word */
don't tell me "Contact the vendor FIRST!", becuse my laptop is
old & secondHand :wink:

Do you just need to create a partition? If so, either boot a live version of linux and recreate the partition with that, or create a Windows PE boot disk (available as a free download as part of the huge Windows Automated Installation Kit from MS) and use diskpart on there.

If you actually need a new copy of phdisk, I would be surprised if you cannot obtain it as a download from the vendor, even with an old laptop. A quick google revealed several non-manufacturer specific versions of phdisk and the linux equivalent, lphdisk.

Cheers,

Hi,

I don't know if this is what you're after, but see http://www.procyon.com/~pda/lphdisk/. I have no experience with this utility.

Windows XP, Windows Vista and linux can all suspend to disk if properly configured without needing a separate partition or third party tools. For windows, you should just enable support for hibernating and afterwards you can once again suspend to disk without needing any other tools.
