Something about Network Specifications

Hi Community,
I have a little Problem. I should write something about Network Specifications and the main issue is called access method or access methods.
A specification describes how things should be done, but I actually don't know, what I have to write about the issue "Network specifications". May be something about IEEE 802, but I don't know.
I have used Mr. Google but I haven't found anything. :cry:

Surely you don't expect us to attempt to tell you what your assignment is when you haven't given the exact wording found in that assignment?!
