Re: Correct me!
I was always amused when our former (primarily French-speaking) Prime Minister, Jean Chretien, would always say "turd" instead of "third".
Top three reasons why my OS project died:
- Too much overtime at work
- Got married
- My brain got stuck in an infinite loop while trying to design the memory manager

I'll never understand why people have problems with the "th" sound, mind boggling.

Re: Correct me!
Hmm, I think the best way to describe the th sound is to put the tip of your tongue in between your upper and bottom teeth and blow air out the gaps beside your tongue.
Even as a native English speaker I still can't really describe how to make sounds...

Re: Correct me!
I also blow air above and below my tongue (aka. between my tongue and my teeth). Besides getting your tongue/teeth/mouth arranged you also have to worry about not spitting on people, not sounding like a snake etc.Troy Martin wrote:Hmm, I think the best way to describe the th sound is to put the tip of your tongue in between your upper and bottom teeth and blow air out the gaps beside your tongue.

...or you could just describe it as a "dental fricative" and curse whoever read that with a few hours of internet searching.Troy Martin wrote:Hmm, I think the best way to describe the th sound is to put the tip of your tongue in between your upper and bottom teeth and blow air out the gaps beside your tongue.

I suppose you meant Wo ist der Badezimmer... you said "who is the bathroom" in translation.

Reviving this thread again...
I got a homework to write "my first day at the secondary school" in English. As I'm bit tired now and it's 19:46 CET here, I ask you: could you check it for me and correct any bad/misspelled words? Thanks in advance.
Here it is:
EDIT: The elementary school lasts 9 years and the middle 4 years here, for those who may be confused with the article.

My first day in the secondary school
Ring ring, said the alarm clock. It was the third of September 2008, seven o’clock. „Shut up!“ I said to the annoying noise and got up. „Just an another ordinary day“ I said. I ate breakfast, cleaned myself and dressed up. I even managed to get on the net for a while. I went to school at eight twenty and realized that it will be no ordinary day. The first difference was the distance... It’s no longer right in front of my flat like it was on the nine-grade. After I got there, we went to a gym hall, where the school director introduced our new teachers. Sadly, I didn’t had there any foreign classmates from the elementary school. Then, we were divided to three classes and then, our class teacher showed us the school and told us the rules. I’ve maked some friends that day too, and we talked between each other. We then heard about which teacher to which subject we were assigned and we joked about them a little. At approx. eleven o’clock we walked home, realizing that now we are on a much higher level than the elementary school was.

Re: Correct me!
Your spelling is great, and your grammar is good, but here are a few nitpicks and fixes:
Then again, my grammar isn't as great as some people's, so some of this may not be as good as I hope it is.
That would probably be "realized that it would be no ordinary day".realized that it will be no ordinary day
"Sadly, I didn't have any foreign classmates from my elementary school" is what I think you meant. Had would be in the past, and "the elementary school" could be any school.Sadly, I didn’t had there any foreign classmates from the elementary school.
"Then we were divided to three classes and our class teacher..."Then, we were divided to three classes and then, our class teacher...
"I made some friends that day too..." Maked is one of those mistakes that even native english speakers makeI’ve maked some friends that day too...
Then again, my grammar isn't as great as some people's, so some of this may not be as good as I hope it is.

Re: Correct me!
Unless you know how to code a serial driver in real mode assembly, it's cool!
Re: Correct me!
The simplest way to do it is through INT 14h. Unfortunately that services are slow, you can set the maximum speed to 9600bps, but they are pretty easy to use. Just initialize the COM port with the fn 0, then you can read and write one by one characters by fn's 1 and 2.

Re: Correct me!
Hmm, in fact it's "Wo ist das Badezimmer?" So your both solutions combined would be correct .inflater wrote:I suppose you meant Wo ist der Badezimmer... you said "who is the bathroom" in translation.
