Beat p2p/torrent throttling?

I am wondering what methods are in use for beating the infamous p2p throttling technologies? The only one I have heard of is to use an encryption-enabled client, but even that seems to have been compromised by certain ISP technologies. Also, what is your take on the 'sandvine' box that Comcast used? Do you agree or disagree with the throttling implementation used?

Also, it would really help my OS if you would answer the poll. =)

I use uTorrent (for anything above 15M) and emule (small files). As for the other part, my P2P apps work as they should so I couldn't be bothered by looking up all those security bypass schemes, so I won't comment on that

I've never had any good experience with the EDK/2K networks (emule,edonkey), I always got either low connections, or just low speeds. uTorrent is nice, it has a few decent protections schemes IIRC (encryption).
I personally love Transmission as it is lightweight and downloads quick.

To be honest, I'm using more of the KAD network than the ed2k network (emule has support for both)

KAD... as in Kademlia?
I just added the full recognition of that network into my OS yesterday.

I also use the p2p transmissions facilities in IRC a lot.

Does it have it's own P2P network? or does it use another network?
Ill have to check into that as I've never even heard of it before.

I'm not sure if it's a network or what.
You log into an IRC channel, and then use the DCC (direct client-to-client) command to send or receive files. I think DCC is built into all IRC clients (I use mIRC). It's very fast.

There are a lot of details to get DCC to work, though.
I know that ports 59 and 113 are important. Maybe also 69?
It's been a while since I had to set it up.

If you'd be willing to explain it all to me after you've figured it out, I'd be very interested.

I see that uTorrent is popular, but how many people use it as their first client? Mine is Azureus (Azureus is a much cooler name than Vuze).

I use uTorrent. Its light and fast. Azureus is slow..

My study of the Vuze client showed an extremely high overhead of packets due to built-in browser/media player/auto-updater (which is the devil btw). On startup, it generates quite a few packets to just get things operational. Most of the pure bittorrent clients that I've found to be good, have little to no startup overhead and only produce/recieve packets when torrents are active. uTorrent is nice and lightweight.
