Canada Do-Not-Call list
Canada Do-Not-Call list
Hey fellow Canadians,
Today you can sign up your phone number with the national do-not-call list. I just remembered about it now. Of course I went and checked out the site and apparently there's so many people trying to sign up the server has crashed. LOL!
Oh well... maybe I'll try tomorrow. It's funny though, the only reason I remembered is because a telemarketer JUST called me 2 minutes ago. I just wish Canada had implimented this a long time ago. It would save a few phone calls waking me up from my nap time.
FYI:
For anyone who doesn't know what the DNC list is.. it's a national list of phone numbers that telemarketers cannot call. Except for registered charities, the goverment, survey companies, or any other business that you have had a business relationship with in the last 18 months.

Re: Canada Do-Not-Call list
That's kinda funny, a database composed of people who "DO NOT WANT" to be called by telemarketers.. delivered right into their hand!
I know.. I know... they get fined if they violate the law, but it also requires that you actively report the violation.. and not every telemarketer gives their corporate name or telephone number. (So, alas, you'll need call display as well.)
Too much work, I rarely get any telemarketers anyway... though, a few months ago one left a message on my answering machine.. it started out with a cruise ship blaring a loud horn and then some unrealistically happy woman saying I won a cruise to the Bahama's(Or some equivalently Speedo flaunting location..).
I'll bookmark it, but I doubt I'll submit my number.. it'll probably attract more spam then it deters, I screen my calls.. so that's no fun.

The telemarketers can call your phone number even if you didn't sign up for anything? What privacy is that? How they got your phone number?
We usually receive some advertising SMS's to the mobile phones but they are (mostly) straight out from the operator, rarely their paid sponsors. Only if you sign up for some weird-looking service you could get spam and crap, just like everywhere.

I'm actually surprised of that.It started out with a cruise ship blaring a loud horn and then some unrealistically happy woman saying I won a cruise to the Bahama's

Re: Canada Do-Not-Call list
We've had a "do not call" list here in the states for most of a decade, I think? It works pretty well. Ours crashed from overuse the first few days, too. You have to sign up for it again every few years ... check out what the time limit is for yours, and write it down, becuase they DO start calling again, right after the time limit is up.

Random dialling or a phone book?inflater wrote:The telemarketers can call your phone number even if you didn't sign up for anything? What privacy is that? How they got your phone number?
Once upon a time, people used to do this to find dial-up modems in their area...
Re: Canada Do-Not-Call list
Cananian telemarketers piss me off. I get calls from them (I live in the UK!) and ask how they got my number - they tell me they used an autodialer. ("The computer picks them at random, sir").Brynet-Inc wrote:Random dialling or a phone book?inflater wrote:The telemarketers can call your phone number even if you didn't sign up for anything? The annoying thing is that autodialers are illegal in the UK and the USA, but because they're in Canada all I can do is hang up

Oh yeah, beautiful nature, history, people, folkways, mountains, ski centres, castles - some even standing and preserved, nice weather (neither -20°C nor 40°C), nice girls, and more... - everything what the US lacks. What was the first thing?
Maybe a weak economy, (*cough* Hungarians *cough* pardon me)currency and political system is what I dislike on this state.

Re: Canada Do-Not-Call list
Here in India the people will call you from any corner of the state and start offering you some thing.
I get calls on my cell from banks trying to sell some or other credit card even if i am not registered with them.
I also get calls even after i have logged complaint and requested not to call me ever.
and yes these numbers are paid numbers and dont know where they get it from.

@naiksidd_85: Don't worry. Here in Australia the Indians call us as well. Although, that might be because Telstra hires them in Indian call centres because it's cheaper. As you also have mentioned, they're also quite good at the task
